NEW YORK (Feb. 22, 2014) – The Maritime men's basketball team fought back strong late in the second half Saturday night at Yeshiva, but eventually lost to the Maccabees, 60-57, in the 2013-14 finale at the Max Stern Athletic Center in Manhattan. The loss ends the Privateers' season with a 3-22 record, including a 1-17 mark in Skyline action, while the Macs finish the year with a 7-18 (5-13) record.

Maritime was down by as much as 14 points in the second half and were down 10 with 2:43 to play before going on a 9-2 run to cut the Yeshiva lead to just three, 60-57. The Privateers had the last possession of the game with 11 seconds to play, but a potential game-tying three-pointer as time ran off the clock just missed.

Freshman Kevin Heine (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) scored a career-best 18 points to lead three Maritime double-digit scorers. Junior T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) recorded 16 points and classmate Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) added 14. Freshman Liam Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols) contributed five points off the bench and Bobby Parlow (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) had four. Corley registered a game-high eight assists and brought down a team-leading seven rebounds, including the last one of the game that gave the Privateers the final possession.

In the first half, the Privateers came out strong, building up a 7-2 lead just over three minutes in. The Maccabees responded with a 10-4 run to take their first lead of the game, 12-11, at 12:26. It was short-lived however, as Heine hit a jumper at the other end to put Maritime back ahead. The Privateer lead grew to as many as six points, 25-19, after a three-pointer by Heine, but Yeshiva rallied and took a one-point lead into the locker room at halftime, 30-29, capped off by a three by freshman Yisrael Feld.

Maritime regained the lead early in the second half and a layup by Gibson put the Privateers up, 33-30. The team would be stuck on 33 points for the next nine minutes, however, as Yeshvia built up a 14 point lead, 47-33, at 10:28. Feld scored eight of his game-high 28 points during that stretch. The Privateers were able to come back to within three, but time ran out and the Maccabees earned the victory in 41st-year head coach Dr. Jonathan Halpert's last game on the sideline for Yeshvia.

Feld's 28 points led three players that scored in double-digits for the Macs as senior Shlomo Weissberg scored 12 points and classmate Benjy Ritholtz added 10 points. Senior Yoni Eckmann brought down a game-high nine rebounds.
