THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – After having defeated them by a 1-0 score during the regular season, the No. 3 seeded Maritime Privateers Men's Soccer team hosted the No. 6 seed Purchase Panthers on Saturday evening in the Skyline Conference Quarterfinals, and fell to the Panthers by the score of 2-0.

Leading Maritime was junior netminder Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport), who finished the match with five saves on the evening. Juniors Sheick Wattara (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly for Math & Science) and Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)) both recorded shots on goal for the Privateers, while sophomore Kieran Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) also registered a shot.

For the game, Purchase stormed out of the gates and recorded five shots in the first seven minutes of play. About 10 minutes later, the Panthers got on the board after a pass from the left wing towards the center of the box was corralled and sent inside the right post to put Purchase ahead by a 1-0 score.

Maritime was awarded a corner kick in the final four minutes of the half, but were unable to do anything with it as the score remained 1-0 in favor of Purchase at the halftime break.

After the team's had a chance to dry off from the rainy elements, Maritime and Purchase returned to the pitch for the second half. The Privateers were unable to string together any successive offensive series, as play continued to be battled in the neutral zone as well as in their own defensive end.

In the 84th minute of play, Purchase collected its second goal of the match to virtually seal the victory as the Panthers were ahead by two with just 6:19 left to play. The final minutes of the game ticked off the clock, and Maritime had been eliminated from the playoffs.

Maritime ends its 2014 campaign with a 9-8-1 overall record, with a 5-3-1 mark in league play. Purchase (8-9-1, 4-4-1 Skyline) advances to the Skyline Conference Semifinals and will have to travel to take on second-seeded Sage in a match on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
