ResultsWAYNE, N.J. – The Maritime Swimming & Diving team competed in its first head-to-head matchup of the 2014-15 season on Thursday as the team traveled to take on William Paterson. Final scores saw the Pioneers defeat the Maritime women by a 127-71 score, and the men by a 128-95 margin.

The women's side saw sophomore
Ashley O'Brien (Middle Village, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) finish in first place in the 500-Yard Freestyle event with a time of 6:47.32, she was followed by freshman
Abigail Granit (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) with a second place time of 7:32.96 in the event.

Junior
Emma Crandall (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) also won her event with a time of 1:24.07 in the 100-Yard Backstroke to net nine points for the Privateers. Freshman
Kelsey Ireland (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) wrapped up the event in second with a time of 1:37.81.

The 200-yard Freestyle team of
Danielle Leahy (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach), Alyssa Bill,
Rhiannon Galletta (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), and
Grace Stanton (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) as the quartet comprised of a sophomore and three freshmen picked up the win with a final time of 2:18.38.

Junior Matthew Collins earned the first win of the night of the Privateers on the men's side as he collected a first place finish with a time of 11:08.07 in the Men 1,000-Yard Freestyle event, over four seconds in the clear of the second place finisher from William Paterson. Later in the evening, Collins had a first place run in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a 5:24.06 time.

Rookie Douglas Russell finished up with a first place finish in the next men's event of the night with a strong showing in the 300-Yard Freestyle.

Junior Brendan Erskine and sophomore Craig Lyon had a 1-2 finish in the 100-Yard Breaststroke as the duo were separated by just over two seconds.

In the last event of the night, Maritime finished strong with a Top-2 finish in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of junior Peter Skerys, freshman John Dean, Russell, and senior Colin McNamara picked up the win. The second place team was comprised of junior Matthew Cannon, senior Zach Haughn, Collins, and sophomore Jonathan Murray.

Maritime will compete in its next event on the road at Brooklyn College, for a 6 p.m. start on Thursday, November 6. William Paterson's next event will come in league competition against NJAC rival Rowan on Wednesday, November 5.
