STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2013) – The Maritime men's soccer team lost a non-conference contest on the road to the College of Staten Island, 5-0, Friday evening. The Privateers fall to 0-2 on the young season, while the Dolphins improve to 1-2.
CSI wasted little time finding the back of the net, as freshman Nicholas Bacarella score the first of his two goals in the game just 1:10 into action. Exactly 30 minutes later, sophomore Horatio Reid converted a pass from junior Thomas Vazquez to double the Dolphins' lead.
Vazquez would make the score 3-0 less than seven minutes later with a goal of his own before Bacarella earned his second goal with less than a minute left to go in the first half. The score was 4-0 in favor of Staten Island going into the halftime break.
Maritime was outshot, 12-7 in the first half and freshman goalkeeper
Phil Marks (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) made three saves in the opening stanza.
In the 61st minute, Marcin Klim closed out the scoring on the day when he tallied a goal off another assist by Vazquez. Marks made four more saves in the second half, ending his collegiate debut with seven total saves. On the other side of the field John Gioeli made five saves to earn the shutout.

Taylor McFadzen (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) recorded two shots on goal to lead the squad.
The Privateers are back in action on Saturday, when they host the City College of New York at 1 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
