POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2013) – The Maritime men's soccer team lost its non-conference contest to Vassar College on Sunday by the score of 4-0. The Privateers fall to 3-4-2 on the season, while the Brewers improve to 5-2-1.

      The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes, but the home team dominated play in the half, outshooting Maritime, 12-0. Freshman keeper
Phil Marks (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) was tested heavily, but stood tall in the opening period, making six saves.

      Shortly into the second half, the Brewers would break through with a goal by senior Juliano Pereira that was scored off a corner kick by sophomore Jordan Palmer. Vassar would fire off seven more shots (only one on goal that was saved by Marks) before the Privateers got their first shot of the game by freshman
Michael Wood (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield) (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield), which sailed just high of the net.

      The Brewers would score back-to-back goals just 44 seconds apart, as Pereira picked up his second of the game followed shortly after by senior Adrien Demelier in the 67th minute. The Privateers were outshot 8-1 the rest of the way, with the only other shot coming from the foot of freshman
Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)) (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)), which was blocked. Junior
Patrick Kelleher (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) came in to play the final 14-plus minutes for Maritime in net and made three saves, but allowed a late goal to junior Tom Wiechert that ended the scoring on the day.

      Maritime will return to the Pitch this Friday night, Sept. 27, for a home Skyline Conference game against St. Joseph's College. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
