FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (May 4, 2013) – On Saturday, the Privateers baseball team was eliminated from competing in the Skyline Conference Championship when they fell to the Old Westbury Panthers by the score of 21-2. Maritime ended the season with a final record of 15-23.

In the afternoon before facing Old Westbury, the Privateers took on the Purchase Panthers. Earlier in the year Maritime was swept in a doubleheader by Purchase but this time the Privateers would have their revenge by defeating the Panthers by the score of 14-8 and ending their season.

Freshman D'Juan Seymour (Nassau, Bahamas/Rabun Gap) had a nice game going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) and senior Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) also drove in two runs apiece for the Privateers. By winning Maritime now advanced to play Old Westbury.

In the night game, Old Westbury jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and wouldn't look back after that. The Panthers would score one in the second, ten in the third, one in the fourth, one in the sixth and four more in the seventh to seal up the season for the Privateers.

Senior Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington), freshman Bruce Tyler (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), and sophomore Patrick Kirk (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) all had two hits apiece in the second game against Old Westbury. Kirk and junior Thomas Bauer (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) both drove in the only runs for the Privateers.

Overall Maritime had a positive season, winning two playoff games and had a .500 record in conference play for the first time since Gene Steinbach has been head coach.
