THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (May 1, 2013) – On Wednesday night, the Maritime baseball team defeated the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles by the score of 4-0 and now move forward to the next round of the Skyline Conference Tournament. Senior starter
Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) shut down St. Joseph's-LI, throwing a complete game shutout.

Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea) got the game started with a leadoff triple. Next up at bat was sophomore
Joseph Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John Baptist) who would single to drive in Galli. Senior
Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) and sophomore
Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) would also follow with a single to right center and a bunt single. Sophomore
Matt Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) would drive in a run on a groundout and a throwing error by junior pitcher Robert Hyde gave the Privateers a 3-0 advantage.
Maritime would tack on a run in the third to make it 4-0 but that would be all Myers would need as he went the distance allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out six earning his first playoff win. This is also Head Coach Gene Steinbach's first playoff victory at Maritime College.
Next up for the Privateers will be the Farmingdale Rams as they advance to second round of the conference tournament. Start time will be at 4 p.m. and will be played at the Rams Farmingdale Baseball Stadium.
