THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 7, 2013) – On Sunday, Maritime baseball lost both games of a doubleheader to the Farmingdale State Rams by scores of 16-9 and 10-6. Maritime drops to 7-16 on the year and 1-5 in conference play.

In the first game, the Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, senior Ron Remi had a two RBI double in the inning and sophomore Nick Ventricelli had a RBI groundout that brought in freshman Dalton McCarthy.

In the third, Farmingdale really broke the game open scoring five runs off of a combination of senior starter Nick Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and senior Max Lockwood (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) who came into relieve Sarna. The inning was highlighted by homers from sophomore Anthony Alvino and Daniel Paccione making the score 8-0 and really taking control of the rest game. Alvino's was a two run shot and Paccione's was a three run blast.

Maritime would fight back scoring nine runs off of Farmingdale pitching but the Rams would put two more runs up in the fourth and five more in the in the fifth which would be too much for the Privateers to handle.

Freshman Bruce Tyler (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) had a solid first game at the plate going 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Freshman D'Juan Seymour (Nassau, Bahamas/Rabun Gap) also had a hit and a RBI. Sophomore Joseph Longo and junior Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea) also contributed with two runs scored apiece.

In game two, Maritime got the scoring started in the second inning when sophomore Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) singled through the right side to drive in one run and sophomore Patrick Kirk (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) also had a RBI on a fielder's choice to put the Privateers up 2-0. Longo would add to the Privateers lead when he homered to right center giving the Privateers a 3-0 advantage in the third.

Farmingdale would answer back with two runs of their own on a Paccione single down the left field line making the score 3-2. In the fifth the Rams would take the lead scoring three runs, Remi plated two on a single up the middle and an Alvino single that drove in one to give Farmingdale a 5-4 lead and an advantage that the Rams would have for the rest of the game.

The Rams would tack on three more runs in the sixth highlighted by a Paccione solo shot, his second of the day. During the inning there was somewhat of controversial call that occurred during a run down between third and home when senior starter Christopher Meyers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) was called for obstruction against the runner at third that awarded the runner home plate. The Rams would score their third run a sacrifice fly that plated sophomore Tom Rydzewski.

The Privateers would make things interesting scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning and having the bases loaded multiple times but senior Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) lined out to right field and Sollin grounded out to first base to promptly end the threat and end the inning.

Farmingdale would score some insurance runs as they drove in two more in the seventh and lead themselves to their second win of the day.

Sophomore Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) had a nice game two going 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Longo was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Privateers will be hosting the Yeshiva Maccabees on Wednesday April 10 at 4 p.m. for a conference doubleheader. Both games will be played the Maritime's home, Reinhart Field.
