THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 23, 2013) – On Wednesday night, the Maritime baseball team defeated the Yeshiva Maccabees, in a mercy shortened game, by the score of 13-0 and have now clinched a playoff spot for the second consecutive year. The Privateers are now 13-19 overall on the season and 7-8 in Skyline Conference play.
Sophomore starter
Ryan Alsdorf (Bethel, N.Y./Sullivan West) (Bethel, N.Y./Sullivan West) went the distance tossing seven stellar innings, only allowing two hits while walking one and striking out 11 Maccabees.
The game was scoreless in the first two and a half innings but Maritime struck first in the bottom half of the third inning when junior
Thomas Bauer (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) scored the first run of the game on a fielding error by Yeshiva's left fielder Jaron Pacht. Junior
Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea) would score the second run of the game on a passed ball and
Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) scored later in the inning on another error to give Maritime a 3-0 lead.
The Privateers would score two more runs in the next i8nning but their big inning came in the fifth when they put up a seven spot to put the game really out of reach. Sophomore
Joseph Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John Baptist) hit a RBI double to get the inning started. Sopomore
Matthew Solin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) drove in a run with a RBI single. Sophomore
Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) and senior
Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash. / Lake Washington) also had RBI singles in the inning.
Maritime will return to action on Friday, April 26 to face the NYU-Poly Blue Jays for a conference matchup. This will be an away game for Maritime as NYU-Poly's field is unplayable. Wednesday's matchup against John Jay has been cancelled and will not be made up.
