Inside The Series With Baruch
The Privateers have a record of 1-2 against the Bearcats since Gene Steinbach has been head coach. Last year Maritime captured a victory against Baruch, 11-6.
Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y/Stepinac) went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in last year's matchup. He hit the first home run of the 2012 season for Maritime in the bottom of the fourth, a solo shot to right field that pulled the Privateers to within 4-2 of Baruch and then he provided the go-ahead, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to put Maritime ahead, 7-6. An inning after Martinez's home run, senior
Jonathan Proscia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Holy Trinity) knocked a two-run game-tying home run, also into right field. Proscia finished the night 2-for-4 with those two RBIs as well as three runs scored.
Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) tossed six innings of four-hit ball while allowing six runs, but only one was earned, as again the Privateers struggled with errors. He also had seven strikeouts on the night. Myers gave way to
Michael Staropoli (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) in the top of the seventh and Staropoli picked up his first win as Maritime took the lead in the bottom of the inning and tacked on three more in the eighth.
