Inside The Series With St. Joseph's-L.I.
The last time Maritime has faced the Golden Eagles was in the first round of the Skyline Tournament of last year where St. Joe's ended the Privateers season.
During the tournament game, Maritime fell behind in the bottom of the first inning when the Golden Eagles' leadoff batter Dennis Nover started the inning with a triple and was brought home on an RBI groundout by the next batter, Anthony Delury.
The Privateers would respond, however, with three runs in the top of the second inning, getting on the board with a costly error by the SJC third basemen on a ball hit by
Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) that scored
Jonathan Proscia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Holy Trinity).
Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) would come home from third base after a wild pitch by St. Joe's starter, Robert Hyde and then, two batters later,
Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) drove in Galli with an RBI groundout to put Maritime ahead, 3-1.
The next inning did not fare well for the Privateers, as the Golden Eagles would score four runs (only two earned) after an error started the inning and St. Joe's cashed in with a couple of hits and hit batsmen with the bases loaded as well as a sacrifice fly to go up 5-3.
Eventually the Golden Eagles would score three more runs closing the game out 8-3 and wrapping up Maritime's season.
