THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 17, 2013) – Maritime baseball defeated the NYU-Poly Blue Jays tonight by a score of 10-9 in ten innings. The Privateers now improve 10-17 overall on the season and are 4-6 in Skyline Conference play.
Maritime found themselves down 8-5 by the fourth inning in tonight's game but kept chipping away making the score 8-6 in the fifth on sophomore
Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side)'s (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) triple, 8-7 in the seventh on sophomore
Patrick Kirk's (Brooklyn, N.Y. / St. Edmund Prep) single, and then eventually tying it up at nine in the top of the ninth on an error by freshman center fielder Matt Larosa that helped score freshman
Bryan Colasaco (Bay Shore, N.Y./Chaminade) to send it into extras.
In the tenth, sophomore
Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) singled to score senior
Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) as the go-ahead run to make it 10-9. In the bottom of the inning, NYU-Poly did put up threat against sophomore reliever
James Very (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) as he walked the first two he faced and then eventually gave up a single to sophomore William Quiqley but junior first baseman Nathan Albers strayed too far away from the third base bag and was thrown out to the end the game.
Junior
Kurt Niemeyer (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) got his fourth win of the season coming on in relief for sophomore starter
Ryan Alsdorf (Bethel, N.Y./Sullivan West) (Bethel, N.Y./Sullivan West). Niemeyer went 5.2 innings giving up two hits, one run (unearned), and striking out 13 to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Kirk had a fine game going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Junior
Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea), senior
Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington), and junior
Thomas Bauer (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) all drove in single runs for the Privateers. Martinez also swatted his third homer of the season in the first inning.
On the Blue Jays side, Albers had a great day going 2-for-2 with two homers, five RBIs, and three walks. Senior Anthony Finch also had homerun for Poly, a two run shot in the second.
Maritime baseball will be traveling to Patchogue, N.Y., to take on the St. Joseph's Eagles for a conference doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled at noon and will be at the Eagles home, Alfano Field.
