Inside The Series With St. Joseph's
In the last five years the Privateers have pretty much taken care of business against the Bears, winning nine games out of ten contests. Last year Maritime had a 2-1 record against St. Joe's, splitting a doubleheader with their Brooklyn counterparts and gaining another victory against them on the last day of the regular season. In last year's first game, then junior Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) hurled seven solid innings, allowing just one run on seven hits. Bears' then freshman Rob Mongiori and freshman Vinny Rossi both knocked in a total of two runs. Sophomore Joe Mendez was 2-for-4 leading the Bears to a 3-2 victory in ten innings.

In the second game, then sophomore Nicholas Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) earned his second win of the season after pitching a complete game, allowing six runs (just two earned) on nine hits while striking out six. Freshman Joseph Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / St. John Baptist) had a big game going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored helping the Privateers capture the second game in an 8-6 win.

On the final day of the 2012 season, Sarna gained another victory against St. Joe's, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out six. Junior Eddie Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) went yard for a three-run blast in the first, sophomore Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) added a two run shot in the fifth and then Freshman Albert Doebecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) slugged a solo blast in sixth to help lead Maritime to a 8-3 victory.
