Baseball Game Day: Privateers Take On Bloodhounds Tonight

3/20/2013 2:29:00 PM

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 20, 2013) – The Maritime baseball club will be squaring off against the John Jay Bloodhounds for the first time and only time this year at 7 p.m. tonight at Reinhart Field. The Privateers will be looking to build off their walk off win last Sunday against CCNY.

Inside The Series With John Jay
Maritime hasn't played John Jay much over the years, only twice in the last three with last year's game being cancelled. The Privateers have a 1-1 record in those two games losing the 2011 matchup by a score of 6-3 and winning the 2010 contest by score of 11-10.

In their last face off against the Bloodhounds, Maritime fell behind early in the first inning, then-freshman Nick Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) allowed a run on two hits. The Privateers tied it up in the fourth when then-senior Matthew Montanes (Elmhurst, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) stole home with the bases loaded. John Jay would eventually take the lead again in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly.

The Bloodhounds tacked on two more runs in each of the next two innings to extend their lead to 6-1. In the top of the ninth inning, the Privateers loaded the bases with one out. A two-RBI single by then-sophomore Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made it 6-3 and the tying run came to the plate in Montanes. He walked to load the bases, but John Jay's Wilmer Chavez struck out the next batter and induced a game-ending fly out to center to preserve the victory.
