THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 20, 2013) – On Wednesday night, the Privateer baseball team sailed past the John Jay Bloodhounds by the score of 7-2. Maritime improves their record to 4-9 and is on a two game winning streak for the first time this year.
The Privateers came to bat down 1-0 in the first inning only to erase that deficit immediately scoring three runs in the inning. Sophomore
Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) scored on a wild pitch, sophomore
Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) drove in a run on a single and sophomore
Patrick Kirk (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) put on a run on the board on a bases loaded walk to make the score 3-1.
The Privateers would score another three runs in the fourth, powered by freshman
Bryan Colasacco (Bay Shore, N.Y./Chaminade) (Bay Shore, N.Y./Chaminade) solo homerun. Sophomore
Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) hit a missed played infield popup by freshman third baseman Nick Gioia that dropped in for single which resulted in two RBIs for the catcher making the score 6-2 and never looking back.
Freshman
Christian Buckman (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) started for Maritime, tossing four innings of work, giving up four hits, two runs, two walks while striking out three.
David Ramos (Merrick, N.Y./Kellenberg) came into relief and hurled two innings, giving up no runs or hits, striking out three Bloodhounds and earning his first victory of the season.
The Privateers will host the Purchase Panthers for their first conference game of the year on March 23 for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Reinhart Field.
