CAMDEN, N.J. (March 2, 2013) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost its season-opener down at Rutgers-Camden, 18-7. Freshman
Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) matched the game-high with five goals in her first career game.
Lavelle opened the scoring on the afternoon when she found the back of the net just 21 seconds into the game. However, the Scarlet Raptors scored 13 of the next 14 goals the remainder of the first half to take a 13-2 lead into the halftime break. Freshman
Jackie Golematis (Douglaston, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) (Douglaston, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) tallied the Privateers' second goal at 17:32 of the first.
In the second half, Lavelle got the scoring started again by registering her second goal of the day off an assist by senior
Molly Divens (Beltsville, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) (Beltsville, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt). She would record three more the rest of the game, including the last goal with seven seconds remaining. Maritime also got a goal from sophomore
Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville).

Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) made nine saves in her first career start.
The Scarlet Raptors were led by senior Annalise Strojan, who recorded six points on five goals and one assist. Sophomore Elizabeth LaBar also had six points, hers coming on three goals and three assists, while freshman Holly Cusick chipped in with three goals and two assists.
Maritime is back in action on Wednesday night, March 6, for the first Skyline Conference game of the season at SUNY Purchase. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Panthers' Field.
