BRONX, N.Y. (March 2, 2013) – On Saturday night, the Privateer baseball team surged past the D'Youville Spartans by the score of 11-4 for their first win of the season. Senior
Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) led Maritime with three RBIs and also scored a run in the victory.
The Privateers started the scoring in the first, when freshman
Bryan Colasacco (Bay Shore, N.Y./Chaminade) (Bay Shore, N.Y./Chaminade) walked, stole second and eventually was driven in on a Semler single to right field. D'Youville would tie the game up in the second inning when freshman Eric Simoncelli smashed a triple to right center to score senior Brent Gibbs.
Maritime's big inning came in the second, when the squad put up four runs off of Spartans right-hander freshman Dan Fox. Senior
Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) began the scoring with a bases loaded walk, Semler had a two-run single and Martinez scored on a throwing error, giving the Privateers a 5-1 lead – a lead they would never relinquish.

Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) started for the Privateers, hurling five solid innings of work giving up four hits, three runs (two earned) and striking out six to earn his first victory of the season. Freshman
James Very (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) added an inning of work in his Maritime debut giving up just one hit and one run, which was unearned, and walking one.
On the other side of the diamond, Gibbs contributed with an RBI and a run scored. Senior DJ Zhangi, sophomore Kyle Taylor and senior Matt Veronica all scored runs for the Spartans.
Maritime will be traveling to Yaphank, N.Y., tomorrow morning to take on D'Youville again. The doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. and will be played at Baseball Heaven.
