THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 17, 2013) – The Maritime College baseball team posted their first walk off victory of the season in the second game of a doubleheader against the CCNY Beavers on Sunday at Reinhart.

Bruce Tyler (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place). The first baseman would place a pitch down the right field line to plate two giving Maritime a 4-3 victory.
Junior starter
Sal Castagnaro (Farmingdale, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Farmingdale, N.Y./St. Anthony's) toed the mound for the Privateers, going five strong giving up only one run on five hits and striking out five. Sophomore Joseph Longo had a hit and a RBI and Doerbecker also knocked in his own run. Maritime also committed nine errors in Sunday's second game, four of them by sophomore
Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) but that wouldn't stop them to prevail in the seventh.
In game one, Maritime's bats were quite as they only scored two runs in the first and were shut out for six innings by CCNY senior pitcher Andrew Mulvey. Mulvey had quite a day going the distance for the Beavers giving up only five hits and two runs while walking three in his line of work.
CCNY scored eleven runs off of Maritime pitching in the first game. Freshman Damien Hudson, junior Kennedy Tavarez, junior Mike Smith, and freshman Emmanuel Nwokelo all had two RBIs apiece for the Beavers. Junior
Kurt Niemeyer (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) started for the Privateers only going 3 2/3 innings while giving up seven runs (three earned) on six hits and only striking out two.
The Privateers will host John Jay College for a non-conference game on March 20. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
