THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 13, 2013) – The Privateers were edged out by the Lightning tonight by a score of 4-3. Maritime let scoring opportunities get away from them as they left eight men on base.

Maritime would strike first scoring two runs in the third on a bases loaded error by junior shortstop Waldo Acosta. That was all the Privateers could muster until the seventh inning when Senior Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) drove in a run on a single that would score junior Thomas Bauer (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) giving Maritime a 3-1 lead.

Eventually Lehman would tie the game in the eighth inning against sophomore reliever Paul Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park). Junior Russbert Eugenio would start the scoring on a RBI groundout and junior Alberto German would have 2-out RBI single to tie the game at three.

In the ninth, junior Michael Liang would start off the inning with screaming double to left center. He would advance to third on a balk by freshman reliever Christian Buckman (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by senior Freddy Parra giving the Lightning a 4-3 lead, propelling them to a win.

Junior Kurt Niemeyer (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) started for the Privateers giving them four innings of no-hit ball while walking one and striking out two. Bauer had also added two hits in four at bats and also scored two runs.

The Privateers will host the College of Staten Island for a non-conference doubleheader on March 16. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Reinhart Field.
