THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 12, 2013) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost its home-opener to Immaculata University Tuesday night by the score of 19-5. The Privateers fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Mighty Macs improve to 2-1.
Immaculata was leading 10-0 in the first half when freshman
Jackie Golematis (Douglaston, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) (Douglaston, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) scored Maritime's first goal on a free position shot. She went on to score another goal off of a free position shot and another at the end of the second half for a hat trick.
Golematis led the Privateers with three goals and four draw controls, while fellow freshman
Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) scored the other two – one on a free position and the other was unassisted. Sophomore
Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) picked up a team-high three groundballs. In goal, freshman
Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) made 13 saves on the night.
For the Mighty Macs, freshmen Kelly Lapp and Allison Jakavick both scored four goals apiece, while Danielle Lopez and Shannon Neill both had a three goals and one assist. In goal, Nicole Behrndt made four saves to record the victory.
The Privateers return to action on Thursday night, when they host arch-rival Kings Point in the newly named
“Sound Shootout.
” Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
