RIVERDALE, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2013) – The Maritime men's basketball team was edged by local conference opponent Mount St. Vincent, 65-61, Wednesday night at the Dolphins' Peter Jay Sharp Center. The Privateers fall to 4-15 (3-11 Skyline) on the season, while CMSV improves to 6-16 (4-11 Skyline).

Three players scored in double-figures for Maritime, led by senior Ron Bethea (Harlem, N.Y./Humanities Prep.) (Harlem, N.Y./Humanities Prep.), who tallied a double-double with 13 and a game- and season-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore T-Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahams/Sunland Baptist) contributed 12 points and classmate Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall) added 11 points, five steals and four assists.

The Privateers started off slow, falling behind by five points just five and a half minutes in, but rallied back to take a one-point lead, 13-12, on a three-pointer by Bethea at 11:32 of the first. Mount St. Vincent responded with a 16-2 run over the next seven-plus minutes, however, to take a 13-point lead, 28-15, at 4:26. Maritime cut that deficit to just five points before the half, 34-29.

Play was pretty even in the second half, as the Dolphins' lead never hit double-digits again. The Privateers got to within two points at 7:52 on a three by freshman Kevin Blohm (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), but MSV built the lead back up to nine-points after an 8-1 run. Maritime responded by scoring the next eight points in the game to come back to within one point, 61-60, after a free throw by Bethea with 35 seconds remaining. Clutch free-throw shooting by Mount St. Vincent down the line kept the Dolphins ahead to claim the victory.

Junior James Zuccaro led all players with 20 points on the night for CMSV, while junior Gerard Fraser and senior Stephen Oliver recorded 12 points and 11 points, respectively.

Maritime returns to action on Saturday, when the team will travel to Old Westbury to take on the Panthers. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center.
