Box Score FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (December 4, 2013) – The Maritime Privateers got 35 points off the bench but were unable to get past the Farmingdale Rams at Nold Hall on Wednesday evening in a 102-64 Skyline Conference loss.
Farmingdale ended the game shooting 55.1% including 42.9% from beyond the arc. Maritime continued its solid shooting from three-point land with 10 more long-range shots following their 12 in the team's last game on Monday evening against Mount St. Mary.
The Rams opened up an 8-3 lead just over two minutes into the game but Maritime rallied back with a 10-5 run that was capped off by a three-pointer by freshman
Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) to tie the game.
After exchanging several baskets, Maritime took the lead away from the Rams with a three-pointer from sophomore
Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J./Somerville). After Farmingdale converted on a free throw, junior
T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) stepped back and drilled a three to put the Privateers up by four.
Junior
Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) sank a basket that was answered by the Rams immediately after. Maritime added to its lead moments later with another three-pointer from Halligan as his strong start to the young season continues. Farmingdale then sprinted out to a 10-0 run over Maritime and tied the game at 33 with 6:29 to go in the half.
Maritime held a one-point lead with 3:58 to go in the first half. However, Farmingdale rattled off a 13-1 run to take a 51-40 lead into the halftime break.
The Rams stormed out to start off the second half and drained 20 consecutive points to take a 71-40. The run was finally stopped as senior
Nick Dunbar (Queens, N.Y./Information Technology) stepped back for a three-pointer with just over seven minutes gone by in the second period.
Gibson scored the nine of the Privateers' next 11 points with just over 6:21 left in the game.
Freshman
Bobby Parlow (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach), along with sophomore
Michael Oliva (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) and rookie
Liam Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols) combined for the final 10 points for the Privateers down the stretch of the game. The final horn sounded and the Rams came away with the 102-64 win over the Privateers.
In the end, the Rams outrebounded the Privateers by a 66-27 margin while also leading in assists at a 20-13 clip. Maritime did lead in turnovers as the unit committed just 16 turnovers to the 22 giveaways by Farmingdale.
Maritime (1-5, 0-2 Skyline) plays its third game of the week on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against NYU-Poly in Brooklyn, N.Y. before taking a few weeks off for final exams. Farmingdale (4-0, 1-0 Skyline) heads off to Purchase, N.Y. for a date with the nationally ranked Panthers of Purchase College for a 12 p.m. tip-off.
