Privateers Tripped Up in New Year's Eve Matinee vs. Randolph

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (December 31, 2013) – In a New Year's Eve matinee against the Randolph Wildcats, the Maritime Privateers wrapped up the 2013 calendar year with a loss by the score of 67-45. The Privateers were led by freshman Liam Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols) with 11 points in the effort.

Ryan finished the game with 11 points, while freshman Kevin Heine (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and junior Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) each finished the game with eight points to end the game.

In the first half of play, both teams got off to a sluggish start as just 16 points were scored between the two sides halfway through the first period of play. Both teams remained silent until 9:12 left when the Wildcats converted on a pair of free throws to take an eight-point lead.

Maritime responded as Heine stepped back and converted for a three-point basket. On the next Privateer possession Maritime sank its second straight three-pointer as Ryan converted to trim the Wildcat lead to a basket.

Down the stretch of the period, Randolph ballooned its lead up to double-digits at 11 points. Maritime trimmed the deficit to nine points as Ryan sank a basket to send the game into halftime with the Privateers trailing 24-15 at the break.

In the second half, Maritime stormed out of the gate quickly with five quick points on a basket by freshman Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) and a three-point basket by sophomore Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J./Somerville). The Privateers eventually got the lead back down to four points with a Bobby Parlow (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) layup after he collected an offensive board.

With 12:54 left in regulation the Wildcats rattled off a 14-0 run to take a 24-point lead with just under a quarter of regulation to go. Randolph continued to add to its lead and reached its high-water mark with a 28-point lead with 1:14 to go in the game.

The Privateers scored the final six points of the game as the final horn sounded and Maritime fell by a 67-45 score.

Maritime (2-6, 1-2 Skyline) wraps up 2013 and will head into the new year looking to get back on the winning track in non-conference action against Bard this Saturday at 1 p.m. Randolph (7-4, 1-1 ODAC) will return home after its New York road trip for a 7 p.m. matchup against ODAC rival Eastern Mennonite on January 8.
