KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2013) – The Maritime men's basketball team lost to Kings Point, 83-64, on Monday at the Mariners' O'Hara Gymnasium. The Privateers fall to 1-3 overall on the season, while USMMA improves to 2-1.

Freshman Kevin Heine (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) led all players with 16 points and matched the game-high with three steals. Sophomore Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) tallied 13 points for his first double-digit scoring effort of the season. Junior Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) (Harlem, N.Y. / Thurgood Marshall Academy) and freshman Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) (Durham, N.Y. / Cairo-Durham) each chipped in with eight points, apiece.

The Privateers were leading 37-35 at the half, thanks in large part to Heine's 11 points in the first 20 minutes. Maritime shot 45.8-percent from the field (11-for-24), while holding KP to just 40-percent shooting (12-for-30).

In the second half, play was pretty even until the midway point, as USMMA held just a three-point lead (54-51) with 10:22 to go. However, Kings Point went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to extend its lead 64-51. The Privateers couldn't respond and KP lead hit as much as 20 late in the half and the Mariners sailed on to the victory.

Four players scored in double-figures for Merchant Marine, led by senior Zach Karczewski, who scored 14 points. Senior Nick Sergio and freshman Matthew Miller both scored 12 points, apiece, and sophomore Andrew Williams contributed 10 points.

Maritime will be back in action a week from today, Monday, Dec. 2, when the Privateers open Skyline Conference action with a home game against Mount St. Mary College. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gym.
