THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2013) – In one of the most exciting games of the year, the Maritime men's soccer team lost its Skyline Tournament Quarterfinal matchup against Farmingdale St., 1-0, Saturday night at Reinhart Field. Despite the score, the Privateers controlled most of the action in the game, but the lone goal of the night came in the 76th minute after an offensive surge by Rams.

        Sophomore goalkeeper
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) was stunning between the posts, recording seven saves, many of them coming on point-blank shots with the game scoreless late. Maritime outshot Farmingdale 6-1 in the first half, both Weber and Rams' senior GK Angelo Viteritti had one save apiece in the first 45. Freshman
Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)) (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)) and Farmingdale senior Matt Kirby had the teams' shots on goal.

        The Privateers had one shot on goal early in the second half on a free kick by junior
Tim Swinehart (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic) (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic), but the Rams took over offensively for a good 10-minute span beginning in the 70th minute. Weber made three fantastic saves just two minutes apart and then two more in the 76th minute before Kirby found the back of the net on his own rebound down low to put Farmingdale ahead, 1-0.

        Maritime did have a good number of chances to tie the game late, as junior
Matt Ciruzzi (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), sophomore
Shieck Wattara (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly) and freshman
Kieran Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) all had shots, but couldn't get the ball past Viteritti. Ciruzzi's shot went just high, Wattara had two headers go just high and Donnelly had two shots that was saved. Viteritti finished the night with four saves.

        The Rams will now move on to the Skyline Semifinals to face #1 overall seed in the tournament, Sage.
