Fans attending the three Maritime home games between now and Dec. 6, are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to drop off in the collection box. Maritime 2013-14 Season Preview By Coach Scott
Guards
We were very fortunate to add a talented group of new guards to our team that complement our returners well. They have been able to gel quickly and we only expect that to get better as the season moves on. The shooting ability of
Kevin Heine (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and
Brendan Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) will help balance our offense. The addition of
Mike Oliva (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) and
Nick Dunbar (Queens, N.Y./Information Technology) (Queens, N.Y./Information Technology) will add some much needed depth in the back court. We will certainly be looking to our returners captain
T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy),
Chris Valerio (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Latin) (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Latin), captain
Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) and captain
Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) to lead us in to the new season.
Forwards
Adding size was a big priority for us in the offseason and we were lucky to get a great group of young men. Versatile forwards
Liam Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols) (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols),
Steve Frost (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and
Bobby Parlow (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) will be a great asset for us because of their inside and outside abilities. The size and strength we gained upfront is crucial to any success we see this year.
Emmett Keane (Maspeth, N.Y./St. John's Prep) (Maspeth, N.Y./St. John's Prep),
Christian Maillia (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and
Wesley Welle (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) have each improved every day and I feel confident in using each of them at any time.
Inside The Series With Sarah Lawrence
Friday's meeting will be the second all-time between the Privateers and Sarah Lawrence. Maritime hosted the Gryphons during the 1979-80 season and won by the score of 94-57.
