THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 15, 2013) – The Maritime basketball team defeated Sarah Lawrence College, 82-52, on Friday night in the 2013-14 season opener as part of the First Annual Admiral's Classic, hosted by the Privateers at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.

T-Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) led all players with 36 points, the highest tally by a Maritime basketball player since the 2010-11 season when Giovanni Hurley scored 35 points. Brendan Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) added 10 off the bench. Corley led Maritime with seven rebounds and four assists.
The Privateers jumped out to an early 14-2 lead over the first five minutes of the game. Gibson had six points in that time, while sophomore
Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) scored the first five points of the game. The Gryphons caught some life for the next five minutes, cutting the deficit down to just two points, 19-17, after a 15-5 run. Maritime worked the lead back up to double digits and ended the first half with a 41-28 advantage.
The squad shot an incredible 59.3-percent from the field in the first half and scored 24 points off of Sarah Lawrence's 19 turnovers in the opening half of play.
In the second stanza, Maritime picked up right where it left off, moving the lead up to as much as 25 points, 63-38, over the first nine-plus minutes. Play was even for the next few minutes, until the Privateers took advantage of sloppy play by Sarah Lawrence to take a 35-point lead, 80-45, with two minutes to go. The Gryphons finished on a 7-2 run.
For the game, Maritime shot 49.2-percent from the field (32-for-65), while holding Sarah Lawrence to just a 31.5-percent clip (17-for-54). McNamara ended the night with seven points and five steals and the Privateers also got contributions from freshman

The Gryphons were led by freshman Stevan Radosavljevic, who picked up a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Classmate Brendan O'Connell also chipped in with eight points.
Maritime will continue the Admiral's Classic tomorrow with a home game against Rochester Institute of Technology, who defeated Kings Point in the first game of the night, 70-49. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Riesenberg Gym, with Kings Point set to take on Sarah Lawrence at 3 p.m.
