NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2013) – The Maritime men's soccer team played a Skyline Conference game at Mount St. Mary College on Saturday and lost to the Knights by the score of 3-0. The Privateers fall to 4-5-2 (1-1-1 Skyline) on the season, while MSMC improves to 8-2 (4-0 Skyline).
The Knights recorded the first three shots on goal in the game in the first half and Maritime sophomore keeper
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) made saves on the initial two, but it was the third shot late in the opening period that gave Mount a 1-0 lead. Senior Christian Redl buried the ball into the right side of the net to put the home team ahead. The score remained the same into halftime.
MSMC came out strong early in the second half as well, firing nine shots to the Privateers' two over the first 20 minutes, including four that were saved by Weber. It was their eighth shot of the half that sophomore Michael Ennis found the back of the net with off a rebound to put Mount up, 2-0.
Maritime responded with four shots over an eight minute span, with one sailing wide left and three of saved by the Knights' senior keeper Matt Darling. Freshman
Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)) (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)) registered two of those shots on goal, while sophomore
Jon Dubowyck (Pennfield, N.Y./Pennfield) had the other. Those were the Privateers only three shots on goal of the day. A late goal by Mount senior Sean Barton ended the scoring. Darling had three saves in the game, while Weber finished up with seven saves for Maritime in the losing effort.
Maritime returns to action on Wednesday afternoon, when they travel to Long Island to take on Skyline foe Farmingdale St. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
