Men's Soccer Game Day: Privateers Renew Rivalry with Knights in Saturday Showdown

The Maritime men's soccer squad coming off of a challenging conference win over St. Joseph's (LI) last Friday, head on the road to take on yet another difficult foe in the Skyline Conference on Saturday afternoon.

Today at 3 p.m. the Privateers trek to Newburgh, N.Y. for a league game against the Knights of Mount St. Mary for a game on Kaplan Field.

Maritime enters off of its win over the St. Joseph's squad after scoring twice in the first 21 minutes on goals by Kieran Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and Nick Mast (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip). The Privateers held on for the 2-1 win as netminder Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) made six saves along the way.

Mount St. Mary enters on a hot streak in which it has won its last four matchups by a combined score of 15-3 over non-conference Vassar and league foes NYU-Poly, Old Westbury and Mount St. Vincent. In their last game against the Dolphins, the Knights got goals from Rob Thompson, Michael Ennis and Sean Lockwood in a 3-1 victory.

All-Time Series
The Privateers are 6-8 all-time against the Knights, with the two teams playing twice last season, in games won by Mount St. Mary. On October 10th of last season, the Knights snuck by with a 1-0 win on Reinhart Field, and then in the Skyline Conference Tournament on October 27 the Knights ended Maritime's season with another 1-0 win.

Two or Fewer
In the last 10 matchups dating back to the 2007 season, Maritime and Mount St. Mary have had every game decided by two goals or fewer. In 2010, the Privateers won the only overtime match between the two sides, 2-1 on September 25 on Reinhart Field.

Player of the Week

After today, the Privateers take on another Skyline Conference rival in the Rams of Farmingdale at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9. Mount St. Mary heads on the road for its next three games, as it travels to Sage, St. Joseph's (LI) and Farmingdale over the next two weeks.
