THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2013) – The Maritime men's soccer team lost to visiting non-conference opponent Brooklyn College by the score of 2-0 Wednesday night at Reinhart Field. The Privateers fall to 4-8-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 9-5.

The first half of the game was fairly even with Brooklyn holding the slight edge on overall shots (7-6) and shots on goal (3-2). Freshman goalkeeper Phil Marks (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) started for Maritime and played the entire first half, making three saves, while on the other end, Bulldogs junior Kamil Ostrowski made two saves to keep the game scoreless into the half.

Sophomore Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) replaced Marks to start the second half. Less than three minutes into the second, Brooklyn struck first, when a ball was brought down the left wing by freshman Marco Thimm-Kaiser, who crossed the ball high into the box and found the foot of senior Dmitry Prokofyev, whose momentum from running brought not only the ball, but his whole body into the net to put the Bulldogs up, 1-0.

The play from then on favored Brooklyn, which would eventually go on to outshoot Maritime, 17-7, overall in the game. The Bulldogs added an insurance goal in the 77th minute, when Prokofyev sent a through ball to freshman Kenny Benitez, who chipped the ball past Weber – who dove forward to play the ball – and into the net.

Ostrowski earned the shutout after making four saves. Three of the Privateers shots on goal came from the foot of sophomore Taylor McFadzen (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport).

Maritime will return to action on Saturday for an important road matchup with Skyline for Purchase College. Game time is scheduled for noon at Purchase's Panther Field.
