THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team defeated the City College of New York by the score of 2-1 on a very windy Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field. It was a late goal on a penalty kick by sophomore
Raphael Tavares (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) that proved to be the game winner. The Privateers even their record at 2-2-0 on the season with the victory, while CCNY falls to 1-2-0.
Maritime grabbed the lead in the second half, when senior

CCNY found the equalizer in the 80th minute when a foul in the box was called against the Privateers which resulted in a penalty kick. Sophomore Matthew Mbamelu went to the dot and fired a low shot to the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.
In the 88th minute, however, a call would go in Maritime's favor, as Anderson was taken down in the box and the Privateers cashed in with Tavares' game-winning goal on a hard shot low and to the left.
Senior
Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack) (Commack, N.Y./Commack) earned the victory in goal.
Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, when the squad travels to Great Neck, Long Island, N.Y. to take on arch-rival Kings Point. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
