THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team lost to non-conference opponent the College of Staten Island Wednesday night at Reinhart Field by the score of 1-0. In defeat, the Privateers fall to 1-2-0 on the young season, while the Dolphins improve to 2-1-0.
All three goalkeepers got into the game for Maritime, as senior
Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack) (Commack, N.Y /Commack) got the start and played the first 28 minutes before junior
John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold) replaced him for the next 34 minutes. It was during those 34 minutes that Staten Island scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game, just seven minutes into the second half.
Dolphins' junior Nedgy Nazon converted a bicycle kick goal in the 52nd minute off of a pass from the right side by sophomore Alfonso Castaned. Shortly after this goal, Maritime freshman
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) was called on to make his collegiate debut between the posts. He played out the remainder of time, but the Privateers were not able to find the equalizer.
CSI's senior goalkeeper Ahmed El-Gahreib made one save to preserve the shutout.
This Saturday, Sept. 8, will be the next game for Maritime. The squad will play the City College of New York in an “away game” that will be held at Reinhart Field. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. or shortly after the women's soccer game.
