THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team played visiting Berkeley College to a 1-1 tie on a chilly Sunday night at Reinhart Field after the two teams were unable to find the game winning goal in the two “golden goal” overtime periods. The Privateers move to 4-6-1 on the season, while the Knights' record goes to 2-7-1.

Berkeley got on the board first in the opening half of action, when Hasan Sezer chipped the ball into an empty net after receiving a long pass by Joshua Bolanos and beating both the defender and the goalkeeper to find himself with an easy tally in the 15th minute.

Maritime finally found the equalizer in the 65th minute, when senior Chris Anderson (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) connected on a 50-yard free kick from the left side near midfield that sailed into the top right corner. Berkeley keeper Gustavo Moreno dove to make what would have been a great save, but the ball deflected off his hand and into the back of the net.

Neither team would score in the two overtime periods, despite each team recording a shot on goal. Maritime keeper, freshman Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport), made one save in the extra time to finish the night with four saves, while Moreno had two saves in overtime to end the day with five saves.

The Privateers are back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers to take on local Skyline-foe Mount St. Vincent. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
