        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2012) – The Maritime football team (1-2) will play host to William Paterson (1-2) on Saturday as part of SUNY Maritime College's Homecoming Weekend Festivities. Kickoff between the Pioneers and Privateers is set for 2 p.m. at Reinhart Field.

        The football game may start at 2 p.m., but the Homecoming Weekend festivities will be all weekend long! Events on Saturday get underway at 9 a.m. with a continental breakfast in St. Mary's Pentagon in Fort Schuyler. Maritime Coaches To Take Part In Nation-Wide Coach To Cure MD Campaign Saturday
        Maritime head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes and the entire Privateer coaching staff will be raising awareness and supporting the campaign to find a cure against Muscular Dystrophy (MD) on Saturday, when they take part in the nation-wide AFCA Coach To Cure MD 2012. The coaches will be joining coaches all over America in wearing a patch on their left arms to help defeat a terrible genetic disorder. Fans are also encouraged to donate $5 to the cause by texting the word “CURE” on their mobile devices to 90999. Privateers Welcome Captain Bruce Fuchs, USNR, To Perform Honorary Coin Flip
        On Saturday, the Privateer football program will welcome Maritime Alum, Captain Bruce Fuchs of the U.S. Navy Reserve, to be the honorary coin flipper prior to kickoff of the game. Fuchs, a graduate of the Maritime Class of 1987, recently returned home to the United States after serving in Afghanistan. While on active duty overseas, Fuchs served with Maritime head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes when the two were stationed together in Kandahar in 2011.
 
Privateer Breakdown
        The Maritime football team enters Saturday's contest with a 1-2 record under eighth-year head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes. The Privateers opened the season with a 20-14 home win over Mass. Maritime on Sept. 7, but lost the next two games – a 19-14 loss on the road to Kings Point on Sept. 15 and a 35-16 loss up at Castleton St. last Saturday, Sept. 22. Maritime has averaged 304.0 yards of offense per game and scored seven touchdowns, while giving up an average of 374.3 yards, nine TDs and two field goals.
 
        The team's rushing leader is junior quarterback Tyler Trodden (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) with 201 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown. Junior fullback Gary Bigham (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles (Fla.)) (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles) is second on the team with 109 yards (3.5 yards per carry) and three TDs. Trodden is also 24-for-49 for 334 yards with two TDs and three interceptions. Trodden's primary receivers have been seniors Anthony Patti (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) and Erik Heedles (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp). Patti has three catches for 113 yards and one score, while Heedles has 11 catches for 85 yards and one touchdown. Classmate Fritz Jean (Palm Coast, Fla./Palm Coast (Fla.)) (Palm Coast, Fla./Palm Coast) has hauled in five catches for 96 yards.
 
        On defense, the Privateers are led by senior linebacker Keith Barnes (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury), who has a team-high 47 tackles (27 solo and 20 assisted), 3.5 of which have been for combined losses of seven yards, while also forcing one fumble. Senior Pat Lasher (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and sophomore Duke Alvora (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) rank second and third on the team with 34 and 30 tackles, respectively. Both players also have forced one fumble, apiece. Lasher leads the squad with five tackles for losses of a combined 12 yards.
 
        The punting duties have landed on Alvora this season, who has had some great punts the first three weeks. He has amassed 456 yards on 10 punts for an average of 45.6 yards per punt. His longest of the year came in Week Two on a 76-yard punt that went back for a touchback. He has three punts of 50 or more yards, has landed four inside the opponents' 20-yard line and had two touchbacks. The kickoffs/field goals have been taken by freshman Diogo Dietrich (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/DePaul Catholic) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/DePaul Catholic, N.J.), who has compiled a total of 483 yards on 10 kicks for an average of 48.3 yards per kickoff. He's also 6-for-7 in PATs. Maritime's return team has compiled 252 yards on 13 returns between Fritz Jean (Palm Coast, Fla./Palm Coast (Fla.)) (seven for 156 total yards, 22.3 ypr), junior Chris Klass (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet ) (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) (five for 79 total yards, 15.8 ypr) and sophomore Greg Caneparo (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) (one for 17 total yards).
 
A Closer Look At The National Rankings
        As a team, the Privateers rank in the Top 25 among all NCAA Division III teams in four categories, including ranking third in the country in net punting (40.9 average net yards per punt) as well as tackles for losses allowed (2.0 per game). Maritime also ranks 12th in two categories – fewest penalties (4.0 per game) and sacks allowed (.33 per game).
 
        Individually, Keith Barnes (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) ranks first in the nation in total tackles with 15.67 per game, while his 9.0 solo tackles per game ranks second. Pat Lasher (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) is 27th with 11.33 total tackles per game.
 
        On the other side, William Paterson is in the Top 25 in the nation in two categories: interceptions thrown (one) and turnovers lost (three). Individually, sophomore John Grabowski ranks 17th in the country with 12.0 total tackles per game.
 
Inside The Series With William Paterson
        Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the two schools in the short “modern history” of the Maritime football program.
 
Scouting The William Paterson Pioneers
        The Pioneers enter Saturday's game with a record of 1-2 under fifth-year head coach Jerry Flora, including an 0-2 mark in New Jersey Athletic Conference action. They earned a 9-3 home victory over King's College in their first week of action, but dropped their next two games, both conference games, to Rowan, 51-0, on the road and Montclair St., 34-17, at home last Saturday. William Paterson has averaged 224.0 yards of total offense per game and have scored just three touchdowns and two field goals on the season, while the defense has allowed an average of 393.3 yards per game, 12 touchdowns and two field goals.
 
        Junior quarterback Ryan Gresik leads the offense with 318 passing yards and is 35-for-61 on completions with two touchdowns and one interception. Junior Mick Paye has been his primary target, hauling in 10 catches for 132 yards and two TDs, On the ground, senior Dawys German leads the team with 265 rushing yards.
 
        On defense, John Grabowski has a team-high 36 total tackles (nine solo and 27 assisted) with three for losses of six yards, including one sack for a loss of four yards. Seniors German Decena and Clifton Glaze ranked second and third on the squad with 25 and 24 tackles, respectively.
 
        Sophomore Robert Sinegra has handled the kicking duties, amassing 322 yards on 14 kicks (47.4 yards per kick). He is also a perfect 12-for-12 on PATs. Juniors Kris Jolin and Andrew Pursell have split the punting duties, as they have combined for 370 yards on 14 punts (26.4 yards per punt). Senior Brandon Bergeron has taken back three punts for 33 yards (11.0 yards per return) while Kevin Alberque leads the kickoff returners with 20.0 yards per return.
