PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team opened the Skyline Conference portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon on the road at St. Joseph's College of Long Island and lost to the Golden Eagles, 3-0. The Privateers fall to an even 4-4 (0-1 Skyline) on the season, while St. Joe's improves to 3-6 (1-0 Skyline).
The Golden Eagles had control in all facets of the game, as they led in the shot differential in the contest, 20-6. Maritime senior keeper
Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack) (Commack, N.Y./Commack) was able to turn aside six St. Joseph's shots in the losing effort. Junior
David Sparozic (Carmel, N.Y./Mahopac) and sophomore
David Hrsaka Jr. (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) had the Privateers' two shots on goal.
St. Joseph's keeper Chris Muhs turned aside those two shots en route to the shutout victory. Fabio Alves recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Golden Eagles, while John Dettori chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26, when the Privateers travel up to Colonie, N.Y., to take on Sage. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the field at Colonie High School.
