KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 11, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team took on arch-rival Kings Point Tuesday night at the Mariners' Captain James Harvey Tomb Field and lost by the score of 2-0. The Privateers fall to 2-3-0 overall in defeat, while USMMA improves to 3-2-0.
Kings Point outshot Maritime, 25-5, on the night and senior goalkeeper
Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack) (Commack, N.Y./Commack) made four saves in over 65 minutes of action. He made three of those saves in the scoreless first half.
Mariner sophomore Nick Vogel scored the first goal of the game exactly two minutes into the second half. Shortly after, in the 56th minute, Vogel tallied again to double KP's lead. The goal was assisted by senior Mark Bloom. The Privateers fired three shots in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
USMMA junior goalkeeper Stephen Fucito made two saves to record the shutout. For Maritime, junior keeper
John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold) made one save in relief of Vanadia.
Maritime is back in action on Friday, Sept. 14, when the Privateers travel to Brooklyn to take on Medgar Evers College. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Aviator Sports and Events Center on Flatbush Ave.
