Baseball Game Day: #6 Privateers Travel To Suffolk County To Face #3 St. Joseph’s-L.I. In Skyline Tournament Opener

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 25, 2012) – The Maritime baseball team returns to the Skyline Conference Tournament for the first time since the 2010 season and the #6 seed Privateers will take on #3 St. Joseph's of Long Island tonight in opening round action. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Golden Eagles' Gregg Alfano Field, which is part of St. Joseph's new Outdoor Sports Complex.
 
        The winner of this game will qualify for a four-team, double-elimination tournament to be held at Farmingdale St. College this weekend. They will join #1 seed Farmingdale St., #2 Old Westbury and the winner of the other opening round matchup scheduled for today, which pits #5 seed Mount St. Vincent at #4 seed Mount St. Mary.

Doerbecker Ends Season Hot, Named Skyline Rookie Of The Week
        Maritime freshman Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week this past Monday after helping lead the Privateers to a 2-2 week last week. The catcher batted .600 with three doubles and his first career home run. He plated four RBIs, scored one run and had a 1.200 slugging percentage.

Semler Earns Skyline Weekly Honor Roll Nod
        Also announced on Monday was the Skyline baseball weekly honor roll, which junior centerfielder Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Edmonds C.C.) earned a spot on. Semler hit .545 with two doubles, five runs scored and four RBIs over the four games last week.
 
Inside The Series With St. Joseph's-Long Island
        Maritime came into this season without a win against their Skyline Conference foes, St. Joseph's. However, in the second game of the doubleheader back on March 24 at Reinhart Field, the Privateers defeated the Golden Eagles by the score of 4-3, earning a split on the day and their first ever victory against the strong conference opponent. Junior Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) tossed the complete game for the Privateers, striking out five batters. Classmate Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) provided a go-ahead RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 2-1 before freshman Matthew Dillon (Floral Park, N.Y./Holy Cross) (Floral Park, N.Y./Holy Cross) smashed a two-run home run to right field.
