        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 21, 2012) – The Maritime baseball team defeated non-conference opponent St. Joseph's of Brooklyn, 8-3, Saturday morning at Reinhart Field. The win improved the Privateers to 17-15 overall on the season, while the Bears fall to 14-16.
 
        Maritime also received some good news today, as the Privateers clinched a Skyline Conference Tournament berth when Mount St. Mary swept Purchase in a doubleheader in Westchester County. Maritime will be the #6 seed and will take on #3 St. Joseph's of Long Island in a single-elimination game on Wednesday, April 25. Game time will be announced on Monday.
 
        The winner of Wednesday's contest will enter a four-team, double-elimination tournament with top seeds Farmingdale St. and Old Westbury and the winner of the other first round game between #5-seed Mount St. Vincent at #4-seed Mount St. Mary. All of the games of the four-team tournament will be held at Farmingdale St. next weekend. The full bracket is available by clicking here.
 
        In Saturday's game, there were three home runs by Maritime. The first came in the bottom of the opening inning, when junior Eddie Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) went yard for a three-run blast to put the Privateers up, 3-1. The second homer was a two-run shot by sophomore Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) in the fifth inning. Freshman Albert Doebecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) added a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth that gave Maritime an 8-1 lead.
 
        Sophomore Nicholas Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) earned the victory, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits to go along with six strikeouts.
