THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 11, 2012) – The Maritime baseball team lost both games of a conference doubleheader against Mount St. Mary on Tuesday at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y. The score of the first game was 11-4, while the final in game two was 10-3. In defeat, the Privateers fall to an even 12-12 on the season, while their Skyline record falls to 3-7. Mount St. Mary improves to 17-10 (8-2 Skyline).
Freshman
Joseph Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John Baptist) was Maritime's top performer on the night, going 4-for-7 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. Classmate
Thomas Bauer (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) scored a team-high three runs over the two games, while sophomore
Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) and juniors
Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Edmonds C.C.) and
Eddie Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) each recorded an RBI.
Sophomore
Kurt Niemeyer (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) was the pitcher on the losing side in game one, giving up six runs on four hits in 2.2 innings, while junior
Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) suffered his first loss of the year, lasting 4.1 innings and giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits.
The Privateers return to action this Saturday, April 14, when they take on Skyline opponent NYU-Poly in a conference doubleheader. First pitch of the nine-inning first game is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Reinhart Field.
In other news, next Wednesday, April 18th's, single nine-inning home game against arch-rival Kings Point has been canceled with no make-up date. This is due to the Mariners' needing to make-up conference games on that date.
