THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 6, 2012) – The Skyline Conference announced late Monday that Maritime sophomore starting pitcher
Nicholas Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was named to the Skyline Baseball Weekly Honor Roll for his performance this past weekend against D'Youville.
Sarna pitched a complete-game shutout, as the Privateers defeated the Cardinals by the score of 5-0 in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. The 5-9, 180-pounder tossed seven innings, allowing just four hits while striking out two to record his first victory of the season.

The Privateer pitching staff is first in the Skyline Conference with a 0.00 ERA, with Sarna, sophomore
Kurt Niemeyer (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) and junior
Trevor Cannella (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) (Sea Cliff, N.Y./ North Shore) ranking first, third and fourth, respectively among all pitchers with a minimum one inning pitcher per game. Niemeyer's 10 strikeouts is tied for ninth in the conference, while Sarna's .148 opponent batting average ranks sixth among Skyline pitchers.
Freshman
Joseph Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John Baptist) ranks fifth in the conference with a .444 batting average (4-for-9), while also ranking second in on-base percentage (.615) and tied for eighth with a .556 slugging percentage. Classmate
Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) has a .455 on-base percentage, which is good for ninth in the league.
Maritime returns to action tonight, when they squad plays host to Baruch College of the CUNY Athletic Conference in a single nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
Inside The Series With Baruch
The Privateers have faced the Bearcats each of the past two seasons, with Baruch coming out on top in both games. In the last meeting, during the 2011 season, Maritime squandered a lead in the top of the ninth inning, allowing the Bearcats to take a 6-4 advantage which would become the final score.
