        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 4, 2012) – The Maritime baseball team improved its record to 3-0 on the young season with a doubleheader sweep of D'Youville College on Sunday at Reinhart Field, winning the first game by the score of 15-0 and the second game, 5-0. The visiting Cardinals will return back to Buffalo with a 0-3 record to start the season.
 
        Junior Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) led the Privateers with a team-high four RBIs and four runs after going 2-for-5 over the two games. He also stole a team-best two bases. Freshman Joseph Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John Baptist) matched Martinez, scoring four times and stealing two bases. Senior Matt Jernegan (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) contributed by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs. Eight different players recorded RBIs and nine players scored runs in the doubleheader.
 
        On the mound, junior Trevor Cannella (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) got the nod in game one and pitched five innings for the victory, allowing five hits while striking out five batters. He earned a combined shutout with freshman Paul Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park), who pitched two innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one.
 
        In game two, it was sophomore Nicholas Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) that got the “W” with a complete game, four-hit shutout. He struck out two on the day.
 
        For D'Youville, junior Chris Glowacki and senior Stephen Gladysz each had a team-high two hits apiece on the day. Junior DJ Zanghi started the first game, but only lasted 1.2 innings, as he allowed nine runs (only one earned) on five hits and four walks. He was replaced by sophomore Mike Anderson, who finished the game with 4.1 innings pitched, six runs allowed on six hits, six walks and two strikeouts. In the second game, freshman Jeff Spors took the mound and pitched all six innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits with three walks and two Ks.
 
        Maritime will continue non-conference play when the team plays host to Baruch College of the CUNYAC on this Tuesday night, Mach 6. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
