NEW YORK (March 29, 2012) - The Maritime baseball team rallied back with three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the City College of New York of the CUNY Athletic Conference, 13-11, Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The win improves the Privateers' record to 10-9 on the season, while the Beavers fall to 4-18.
Sophomore
Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) led the way for Maritime with three RBIs, including plating the game-tying run in the ninth on a triple. Freshmen
Joseph Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John Baptist) and
Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) each drove in two runs, apiece.
On the mound, sophomore
Nick Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) got the start and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits with three strikeouts. He was replaced by sophomore-transfer

Red Burke (Warwick, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep (N.J.)) (Warwick, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) was solid in relief, throwing 1.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits with two strikeouts.

Trevor Cannella (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) (Seacliff, N.Y./North Shore) that earned the victory, his third of the season, after pitching a scoreless and hit-less eighth inning with one K before Maritime scored their three runs in the ninth. Classmate
Max Lockwood (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) came in in the ninth inning and earned the save hitting just one batter, but allowing no hits and striking out two.
The Beavers were led by sophomore Michael Smith and senior Danny Perez, who each had three RBIs apiece. Junior pitcher Andrew Mulvey suffered the loss after allowing four runs over the two final innings.
Maritime returns to action this weekend when the team travels up to Newburgh, N.Y., to take on Mount St. Mary in Skyline Conference action. Game time of the doubleheader on Saturday is scheduled for noon at Delano-Hitch Stadium.
