STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (March 17, 2012) – Maritime junior pitcher Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) pitched a gem in the first game of a doubleheader to help lead the Privateers to an 8-0 win and then the Privateers battle through a long second game to earn the sweep on the day over the College of Staten Island Saturday afternoon at the Dolphins' CSI Baseball Complex. The wins improve Maritime to 7-4 on the season, while CSI falls to 6-8.

Myers was the story of game one, tossing a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out 11 batters and only walking one. The Privateers provided run support very early, scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning and adding another in the second. Myers picked up his first win on the season.

Freshman Thomas Bauer (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) and junior Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) (Kirkland, Wash./Edmonds C.C.) provided the offensive sparks in game two, as they both recorded two RBIs apiece. Freshman Robert Silvestri (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) earned the victory after pitching one inning, the fourth, and allowing no runs on one hit with one strikeout.

The Privateers return to action tomorrow, when they travel to William Taft High School on the other side of the Bronx to open up Skyline Conference play against Yeshiva. The first pitch of the opening game of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
