Privateers Drop Season-Opener To Hartwick On Saturday

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 10, 2012) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost to visiting Hartwick College Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field by the final score of 20-7. The loss drops the Privateers' record to 0-1 to start the season, while the Hawks improve to 2-0.
 
        Senior Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) scored a game-high six goals, while classmate Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) added the other score for the Privateers. Saporito also had a game-high four groundballs, while winning a team-best three draw controls and two caused turnovers. In goal, freshman Jamie Rocco (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) was strong between the pipes, making 11 saves.
 
        For the Hawks, Brittany LaVaute recorded five points with three goals and two assist. Brittany McCabe contributed with two goals and two assists, while Erin Doyle registered two goals and an assist and  Emily Jweid also scored twice. Six other players had one goal apiece. In net, Steph Luce recorded eight saves for the victory.
 
        Maritime is in action next on Wednesday, March 14, when the team travels down to Camden, N.J. to take on Rutgers-Camden. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Scarlet Raptors' Turf Field.
