Basketball Drops Home Tilt To Mount St. Mary Saturday

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2012) – The Maritime men's basketball team lost to visiting Mount St. Mary College, 80-46, Saturday afternoon at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The Privateers fall to 2-21 overall (2-14 Skyline) on the season in defeat, while the Blue Knights improve to 18-5, 13-3 Skyline.
 
        Senior Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led all players in the game with 26 points for his sixth-straight 20-plus point performance. Sophomore Jack Cole (Bethany Beach, Del./Indian River) (Bethany Beach, Del./Indian River) grabbed down a team-high nine rebounds while chipping in with six points. Junior Henry Evans (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Stillwater) (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Stillwater) also put up six for Maritime.
 
        The game opened with the visitors taking an early 15-6 lead in the first five minutes. The Privateers scored on a good three-pointer by McSloy to cut the deficit to 15-9, but the Blue Knights went on a 22-0 run over the next eight minutes to take a commanding 37-9 lead.
 
        Mount St. Mary senior Carlos Valdez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) recorded a double-double in just the first half of the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds. He led the way in the second half, scoring four more points and bringing down five more boards to finish with a team-high 23 points and game-high 17 rebounds. Classmate Kevin Milella (Floral Park, N.Y.) also scored in double-figures as he contributed 11 points.
 
        The Privateers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15, for their final road game of the season, when they travel to Farmingdale St. to take on the Skyline-foe Rams. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. out in Nassau County.
