THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2012) – The Maritime men's basketball team lost to local Skyline-foe Purchase, 70-45, Wednesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The defeat drops the Privateers to 2-18 on the season (2-11 Skyline), while the Panthers improve to 8-11 (6-6 Skyline).
Senior
Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led Maritime with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists and was the only Privateer in double-digits in the contest. Earlier in the week, McSloy was named to the Skyline Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts in the Privateers' two games last week.
Freshmen
Louie Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./Eagle Academy) (Bronx, N.Y./Eagle Academy) and
T-Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sun Land Academy) both tallied five points, apiece.
Purchase led from start to finish, opening the game up on an 8-0 run and expanding the lead to as much as 20 points before the whistle blew for halftime. The Panthers took a 36-17 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Purchase built its lead up to 29 points (56-27) at the 10:53 mark and held on to take claim the victory.
The Panthers were led by junior John Pressley, who scored a game-high 26 points. Junior Craig Davis tallied 10 points, while junior DJ Smith brought led all players with 10 rebounds.
Maritime returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Manhattan to take on Skyline opponent Yeshiva. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at the MSAC.
