THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team shut out visiting Skyline-foe NYU-Poly, 2-0, Saturday Night at Reinhart Field. The Privateers now move to an even 6-6-1 on the season, including a 2-3 mark in Skyline play, while the Jays fall to 4-8 (2-3 Skyline).
Maritime didn't get on the board until the second half, when sophomore
Logan Becker (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) found the back of the net in the 65th minute on a bloop shot that Poly goalkeeper Brendan Finn got his hands on, but the ball bounced off of his hands over his head and into the goal.
The Privateers scored again in the 73rd minute, when
Matt Ciruzzi (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) corralled the ball right in front of an empty net and fired it in after Finn went forward to try and block an indirect kick by
David Sparozic (Carmel, N.Y./Mahopac). Sparozic was credit with the assist.
In goal, freshman
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) finished the night with eight saves to record the shutout for his first collegiate victory.
For the Jays, Finn played just under 73 minutes and made four saves before being replaced by junior Rishi Sarkar.
