Last Time They Met
The Privateers hosted the Knights back on Oct. 10 at Reinhart Field. Mount came out victorious, 1-0, on a goal in the 39th minute by junior Rob Thompson. Maritime had two chances to tie the game in the second half, the first was in the 53rd minute, when senior
Derek Nehring (Massapequa, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) (Massapequa, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) sent the ball on a direct kick in from midfield that was aided by the wind. The ball bounced about 10 yards in front of the keeper, who was caught in between bounces, and it sailed jus over the crossbar.
The second chance came later in the game, in the 86th minute, when the Knights were called for a foul 30 yards out and the Privateers were awarded a direct kick. Senior
Chris Anderson (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) and junior
David Sparozic (Carmel, N.Y./Mahopac) lined up behind the ball and tried a little trickery with Anderson running first, but through the ball, and then Sparozic ripped a shot that senior keeper Matt Darling played perfectly and made the save on.
Freshman keeper
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) made eight saves. Darling ended with four saves for the shutout.
