THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team lost to conference-opponent Farmingdale St. Thursday night at Reinhart Field, 1-0. The defeat drops the Privateers to 7-10-1 overall (3-5 Skyline), while the Rams improve to 7-8-1 (5-3 Skyline).
The only goal of the game came with just 6:41 remaining in the second half. Farmingdale freshman Victor Romero gathered the ball off a miscue of the Maritime defense and charged in for a breakaway down low. He fired a shot past freshman keeper
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) to put the Rams ahead.
Farmingdale outshot Maritime, 11-6, and Weber recorded six saves on the night. For the Rams, junior keeper Angelo Viteritti made four saves in the shutout performance.
Maritime is back in action on Sunday, when they travel to Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers to take on Skyline opponent Yeshiva. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
