THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team relied on the head and foot of two freshmen to overcome a 1-0 deficit and defeat Skyline-opponent Old Westbury, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field. The win improves the Privateers to 7-8-1 (3-4 Skyline), while the Panthers fall to 3-13 (2-4 Skyline).
Old Westbury struck first in the 37th minute when freshman Alec Adeclat found the back of the net after an indirect kick. The kick was taken by junior Brian Bolivar from about 50 yards out. The ball found the foot of junior Michael Bayne, who quickly passed it to Adeclat, who blasted the ball low into the net.
Maritime responded just over five minutes later in the 42nd minute, when freshman
Ryan Flaherty (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Notre Dame High) (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Notre Dame High) headed the ball in from the left post off an assist by junior
Tim Swinehart (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic) (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic). The game reached halftime with the teams tie, 1-1.
In the second half, the Privateers put on the pressure, actually outshooting the Panthers 12-5 in the half. The game seemed to be heading for overtime, but with 16:17 left on the clock, freshman
Kory Barone (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) fired a shot from about 22 yards out that found its way under the crossbar to give Maritime the 2-1 lead.

Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) earned the victory with four saves on the day. For Old Westbury, junior Marcelo Guardado made eight saves in the losing effort.
The Privateers return to action on Monday, Oct. 15, when they will travel to face non-conference opponent Brooklyn College. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Bulldogs' Brooklyn College Field on the campus located in the Midwood section of Brooklyn.
